Narcissism in a Sibling [How to Spot the Signs]

I have won state for High School and have gone to western regionals and placed second out of the eleven teams there around the west. When I meet people that are from a different country, I wonder what or how there life is different from mine. I'm a person. When I left my hometown in Hungary to live with my dad in America, a lot of things were different for me. The language was different, the people were different, the culture was different, and the schools were different. I got to start school in September, with all of the other teens my age. I noticed how a few things here in America are. I come from a family with both parents and several siblings.

Everyone in my family is Christian, all of them having grown up in the church, typically Nazarene. My entire family is made of Caucasian, native English speakers. Because of that, most of my friends are also native English speakers and all Christian. There are also many life experiences that have affected my personal culture. Culture is important because it allows people to maintain a unique identity society. Many cultures have common interests, while others may have customs that differ greatly from that of another. Technology has had a huge impact on present day cultures. Many culture have been altered including my own, and some have been created due to the rise of technology.

Cultures differ so greatly that someone belonging to one culture may not agree with the values of another, which then causes social and ethical issues. My culture shares many similarities with others around the world; most of which have connected more people in recent years than ever before. Cultural gaps, and lack of …show more content… In the past, things were primarily about skin color, and issues regarding people of a particular skin color were handled by such, and not ethnicity. Black people were black people, whites were whites, and so on. Yet the viewpoint narrator in a scene may be unreliable they could lie about what truly happened, or gloss over details that, for example, make them look worse to others.

Authors like Vladimir Nabokov have written novels featuring protagonists who are unethical or even abusive. Take, for example, this scene in Mrs Dalloway Septimus Smith is a World War I veteran whose mental health is crumbling. His Italian wife Rezia feels unease and longs for her home country. Human nature, in short, was on him — the repulsive brute, with the blood-red nostrils. Holmes was on him. Holmes came quite regularly every day. Once you stumble, Septimus wrote on the back of a postcard, human nature is on you. Holmes is on you. Their only chance was to escape, without letting Holmes know; to Italy — anywhere, anywhere, away from Dr.

But Rezia could not understand him. Holmes was such a kind man. He was so interested in Septimus. He only wanted to help them, she said. In genres such as biography, autobiography and various historical subgenres e. Of course, the author may choose to tell a war story in a tumultuous present tense. Yet it serves a common purpose:. One thing common to historical narrative in different genres is it shows historical process. It links causation from event to event, showing the chain reactions that lead to how things pan out. Such as the words bolded in this example:.

First, the city was a fledgling thing. In later years , as the local publishing industry grew, it became a hotbed of hotshot journalists-in-training. So the city needed more traffic lights and the related tender corruption to write about. A sense of historical cause and effect, of long stretches of time condensed, is typical of historical narrative. At Assembly the next morning, she was made to look up depravity in the Oxford Dictionary and read aloud its meaning. Six months later she was expelled after repeated complaints from senior girls. She was accused quite rightly of hiding behind doors and deliberately colliding with her seniors.

Storytellers raise expectations. You can actually be talked into paying high fees because the storyteller sold you a dream. Investing based solely on emotion is a recipe for a disaster. You need to invest with your mind, not just your heart. You need to combine data with the story. You need to look beyond the sales spiel or the latest darling of the market. Investing is about probabilities. The outcome is not written in stone.

If it is a stock look at the financial parameters. Look at the competition. Look at how the consumer is evolving. If it is a sector or thematic bet, look at the reasons you believe it will pick up. Once you begin to objectively ask questions, you control the narrative. Good stories need not translate into good investments. Good investment stories capitalise on well-publicized, long-term macro trends that transcend the business cycle.

But often, a good narrative is all that is needed to pump up the momentum. Which means, the story can fizzle out rapidly. The trend may be completely true but may not play out as expected. For example, in the late s, investors were enamoured with Internet stocks, convinced they would fundamentally transform the economy and allow e-retailers to take market share away from brick-and-mortar stores. The story was right, but the timing was wrong. It took longer than many expected for that transition to happen, which prevented many from profiting from it. Test your hypothesis with numbers and data. Talk to people who have an opposing view. The market does not care about your exquisitely crafted story. And your aim is not to satiate your ego; your aim is to make money. Are you gravitating towards the flavour of the year?

This means that the pull is the latest performance, which also means that you are already behind. They enter the fund at its peak, leaving little leeway for the investments to run. And then they have a horrible investing experience. Before you invest, you should be in a position to articulate your stance on why you believe that investment is likely to outperform. Ask yourself, what is the time frame you are comfortable with? And, if it does not pan out as expected, are you in a position to accept the losses?

Even if the story is real, it may not be forever specially in the case of a thematic or sector or cyclical bet. Your investment strategy must include a buy and exit strategy. When will you sell?
